SLATE

A foliated metamorphic rock with a rustic finish.

Slate

It is a multi-layered metamorphic rock created by alteration of shale or mudstones through low grade metamorphosis. Originally formed as deep-water mud stones on ancient sea floors. They were then lifted, folded and metamorphosed into what we currently know as slates.

Properties

Due to its layered and low-porous nature it is very attractive and majorly used in roofing, wall cladding and landscaping purposes. Slate is a remarkable roofing material and has been part of Himalayan architectural heritage. Its properties like low water absorption, fire resistant and energy efficient makes them most durable for colder regions.
