Formation & Composition

Marble is a metamorphic rock formed when the sedimentary rock ‘limestone’ is subjected to high heat and pressure from the earth’s crust. The major composition of marble is calcite (CaCO3) along with other minerals such as mica, quartz, graphite, pyrite, iron oxides and clay minerals. The % of impurities that the marble contains determine the colour of the marble.
